History of Geumjeong

  • Subordinated to Byeonhan in the Samhan period, Silla in the period of the Three States, and Yeongdongdo (Gyeongsangjudo) in the Goryeo period, respectively
  • Incorporated into Dongnaejin (→Dongnae-hyeon and Dongnae-bu) and Buk-myeon, Dongnae-gun in the Joseon Dynasty period
  • Since the Establishment of the Republic of Korea

757 Referred to as Dongnae-gun in the 16thyear of King Gyeongdeok of Silla.
1021 Renamed Dongnae-hyeon in the 12thyear of King Hyeonjong of Goryeo.
1393 Referred to as Dongnaejin in the 2ndyear of King Taejo of Joseon.
1547 Referred to as Dongnae-bu (Dohobu) in the 2ndyear of King Myeongjong of Joseon.
1914 Referred to as Dongnae-gun (divided into Dongnae-gun and Busan-bu)
1942 Incorporated into Busan-bu; installed the Dongnae branch office.
1963 Elevated to jikhalsi,“directly-administered city" (included 6 dongs of Buk-myeon, Dongnae-gun).
Installed the Bukmyeon branch offices in Seon-dong, Dugu-dong, Nopo-dong, Cheongnyong-dong, and Guseo-dong.
1975 Elevated to Dongnae-gu (Act No. 407); abolished the Bukmyeon branch offices, which were incorporated into Jikhal-dong.
January 1st, 1988 Separated Geumjeong-gu from Dongnae-gu pursuant to the Presidential Decree No. 12367, which was promulgated on December 31st, 1987.
(Seo 1, 2, 3, and 4-dong, Geumsa-dong, Oryun-dong, Bugok 1, 2, and 3-dong, Jangjeon 1, 2, and 3-dong, Seon-dong, Dugu-dong, Nopo-dong, Cheongnyong-dong, Namsan-dong, Guseo 1 and 2-dong, Geumseong-dong in Dongnae-gu).
April 15th, 1991 Opened the Inaugural(1st) Geumjeong-gu Council.
September 1st, 1992 Separated Bugok 4-dong from Bugok 1-dong pursuant to the Geumjeong-gu Ordinance No. 273 of Busan Jikhalsi.
July 1995 Held an inauguration for the 1st Mayor elected by popular vote.
November 1st, 1998 Incorporated Oryun-dong into Bugok 3-dong. Integrated Seon-dong and Dugu-dong into Seondugu-dong; Nopo-dong and Cheongnyong-dong into Cheongnyongnopo-dong.
July 1st, 2006 Inaugurated the 4th popularly-elected Gu Office.
January 1st, 2009 Integrated Seo 3- and 4-dong into Seo 3-dong.
January 1st, 2020 Integrated Jangjeon 2- and 3-dong into Jangjeon 2-dong.
